Røssvatnet has several nice beaches inviting to trips and boat life. Even if the bathing temperature is not high, it is possible for the toughest to test their swimming skills on nice and sunny summerdays. Boat with an outboard or canoe can be rented.
Statskog is owner of the lake and the mountain areas and they sell the fishing license. The license is valid for a larger area. Røssvatnet er regulated, and the fish is therefore mostly caught with nets. There is a limit of maksimum 5 nets pr. person. The catch is mainly trout and char at size of 200 - 400 grams. The quality of the char is very good despite the size.
Stekvassdalen with the lake Stekvatnet and the river winding along the flat valley surrounded by snow covered mountains is a nice view and experience. With canoe you will come close to the riverbanks and have access to areas which is difficult to reach on foot. During the melting season and in rainy periods the river will become large with flows of water and foaming white waterfalls in the lower parts.
From the Swedish border in east flows Storelva (the great river). It is winding throug a flat and calm section called Stillelva surrounded by flat fields of grass and forest - an area ideal for canoing and camping. South of Storelva, 2.5 km from the road, there is an old preserved pine tree. It is a popular goal for excursions - also among the locals. The trail further eastwards throug Tängvassdalen to Rönes and the road continuing to Hemavan is an old connection between Nord-Helgeland and Västerbotten - and the only crossing without a mountain area.
The area around Nord-Røssvatnet is varied and gives a lot of oppotunities for hiking and crosscountry skiing - from slack hills to steep montains and hiking on glacier for the experienced. Stekvasselv is also a natural place to stop for hikers wandering along Norway following the trail "Grensesømmen / Nordlandsruta". At the north- and west side of Okstindene has Hemnes turistforening several huts with good standard, and a connected nettwork of trails arond the mountain massif.
In the autumn is the nice hunting terrain popular among hunters, and some of them returns here year after year. Autumn is also time for harvesting berries and mushrooms with a rich variety in a luxuriant and generous nature.
